| Every 15 minutes, someone
is involved in a drunk driving accident. Every
15 minutes someone loses a brother, sister,
mother, father, daughter, son, relative or
friend. The results of drunk driving accidents
are devastating. |
| The “Every 15 Minute”
Program is a two-day program to help prevent
alcohol related incidents. The program focuses
on high school students and challenges them
to think about drinking, personal safety,
and the responsibility of making mature decisions
when lives are involved. Prior to the actual
event, approximately 25 students, representing
a cross section of the school are selected.
Waivers are reviewed and signed by students
and their parents. |
| The program’s name
was derived from the fact that in the early
1990’s every fifteen minutes someone
in the United States died in an alcohol-related
traffic collision. However, with the implementation
of new laws, organizations like Mothers Against
Drunk Driving (MADD) and programs such as
these, the death rate is now one every thirty
minutes, a figure that continues to be unacceptable.
The program brings together a broad coalition
of interested local agencies with the goal
of reducing the alcohol-related traffic fatalities
among youth. The partnering of law enforcement,
the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control,
local hospitals, emergency medical responders,
schools, businesses, and service clubs validate
the importance of working together to ensure
a healthy community. |
| Quality Towing supports
and is involved in the 15-minute program.
Since we tow vehicles from accident scenes,
we know the importance of driving safely and
not drinking while driving. No person needs
to lose his or her life over an accident that
could have been prevented, and should have.
